Drive-in movies have made a comeback in the pandemic era. Now Middletown Township is hosting drive-in concerts beginning in August.

Middletown Township Parks and Recreation Department Director Paul Kopera announced earlier this week the dates for two upcoming concerts.

As expected, a drive-in concert needs plenty of space for cars. So, Middletown Parks and Rec has chosen the parking lot of the closed Boscov’s at Oxford Valley Mall.

Opening night is Friday, August 7 featuring “Split Decision,” a top 40 cover band. The next day, “Shot of Southern,” a country band from Philadelphia, will take the stage.

Tickets are $25 per person, so a car with three people is $75. Thanks to the drive-in model, live music while social distancing can be possible.

Each car will have its own adjacent tailgate space so people are not cramped in their vehicles the whole concert. Then there will be a vacant parking space to make sure each group maintains their distance.

The township has partnered with Mid Atlantic Event Group to bring in more bands. Kopera stated the department is planning more concerts for September and August.

Falls Township and Lower Makefield Township have hosted drive-in movies. They have also partnered with Mid Atlantic Event group.
