A single vehicle accident in Newtown Township resulting in serious injuries Sunday evening is confounding local authorities. Police are asking for the public’s help to figure out what caused a teen to crash into a utility pole near the intersection of Swamp Road and Twining Bridge.

The Newtown Fire Association confirms Temple MedFlight arrived to the scene.

Shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sunday, police arrived to the scene and found a juvenile in need of serious medical attention trapped in their vehicle. In addition to local first responders, the Temple MedFlight helicopter arrived to the scene to provide further assistance.

Swamp Road remained closed overnight from Twining Bridge to Pennswood Drive. After a long night, authorities reopened the area for the morning commute.

“We are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have any additional information to please contact us,” Newtown Police posted on Crimewatch. “Thank you for your assistance with this investigation.”

The accident remains under investigation as of noon Monday.
