A former Bensalem resident has been convicted of sexually abusing a girl who was just nine years old when the abuse began in 2007. Thomas Padikal, 71, now lives in New Jersey, but he did not move far enough to escape his criminal past.
Every single day for more than two years, Padikal took advantage of the young girl. The abuse only stopped once she had moved away. Meanwhile, Padikal was tied to his employment as a physicist in the fields of radiology and oncology.
Disturbingly, Padikal may have evaded justice if he had not made one mistake. Instead of trying to hide, he began an obsession.
For years, Padikal followed the girl on social media and hosted a website dedicated to her. He even created a Powerpoint presentation “containing numerous pornographic images depicting the victim’s face crudely superimposed on the bodies of grown women,” according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
Then, about one year ago, he texted and called his victim.
In a twisted attempt to justify his actions, Padikal told his victim he had “sacrificed” himself for her sexual education. Fortunately, the Bensalem Police were recording his conversation with his victim, who is now an adult.
Less than 30 minutes after the jury began deliberating, they found Padikal guilty of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, and related charges.
Padikal will now sit behind bars while he waits for a mental-health assessment.
