Covington Road in Lower Makefield will soon be the home of a new dog park. On Sunday, July 15, Parks and Rec is hosting a grand opening. Dogs and dog owners will soon have a place to gather and play.
“There are other dog parks in the area, but they’re far,” Veronica Giles, a program coordinator for parks and recreation, said. “Just having a local area, for Lower Makefield Township residents to bring their dogs and socialize would be a good addition.”
The funds for the park were raised by members of the Lower Makefield Township community. The dog park is only open to members of the dog park. To become a member, residents must attend an orientation class and register online.
Dogs must have recent vaccinations in order to use the dog park.
Memberships to the dog park last for one year and Lower Makefield Township will be holding orientation classes throughout the summer. The orientation classes last 45 minutes long and are held in the Lower Makefield Community Center.
“We have been in this process for a few years now, and a committee of residents actually put together the fundraising effort to bring this park about,” Giles said. “It was by the community for the community.”
The grand opening of the Lower Makefield Township dog park will feature different vendors, food trucks, and activities for kids in the park’s space. The event is scheduled to happen rain or shine and will start at 12:00 pm and end at 4:00 pm.
