A planned meeting with Bensalem Township officials and members of a Muslim congregation has been postponed until Dec. 20.
The meeting with representatives of the Bensalem Masjid was part of a federal lawsuit filed in 2014 by the U.S.Department of Justice, which determined the township’s zoning hearing board did not meet some of the requirements of the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000.
The township had argued the original mosque building plan did not adhere to some township zoning guidelines. The hearing on December 20 will include revisions to the original plan. The Muslim congregation has been meeting in a local fire hall for services.
