Middletown Township’s Parks & Rec Department will be offering two science and technology themed programs on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan 21. The workshops last about as long as a full school day. Attendees should bring their own lunch.

Anyone can register under the “Youth Special Interest” section of the program registration website. The cost for non-residents is higher and can be found there as well.

Mad Science Workshops:

Covering “Crazy Chemistry and Rocketry,” the Mad Science Workshops give children ages 6 to 12 a chance to work with their hands. The cost is $85 for the day, which will go from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Barn.

Morning lessons include mixing together different concoctions and watching what happens. Children will make sidewalk chalk and crystal gardens, which they can bring home. In the afternoon, students will build model rockets and watch an outdoor launch.

3D Video Game Creation:

Video game enthusiasts can rejoice at this opportunity to design their own creations. Also being held in the Barn, the class costs $100 for residents and lasts from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Kids 8 through 11 will be able to pick their own themes, characters, and prop models to make a game in 3D. This added perspective allows for even greater customization and interaction with the virtual environment.
