GIANT is once again changing its hours to adjust to the coronavirus. This time, they’re making special room for seniors. Plus, there are jobs available to people struggling during the pandemic.

Starting Thursday, the supermarket chain will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at all locations. But the first hour each day, from 6 to 7 a.m., is seniors only.

This seniors hour is designed to encourage social distancing. It also allows older adults to peruse the stores right after the shelves have been sanitized.

“Now more than ever, it’s vital we come together as a community to support each other during these uncertain times,” said GIANT President Nicholas Bertram. “Part of that is listening, showing compassion, and demonstrating care for some of our neighbors who are most vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.”

Additionally, there is a new limit on items like paper goods and disinfectant products. Each customer is allowed to buy two so everyone can get what they need.

GIANT is also hiring part-time and temporary employees. The current demand for groceries is “unlike anything we’ve ever seen before,” according to Bertram.

The move courts workers who may have lost hours or their job due to the coronavirus. Open positions include service associates, cashiers, general stock clerks, drivers and fulfillment center selectors.

Candidates can apply on the GIANT website here, or speak to any store manager.
