A new internal poll shows Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick solidly leading Democratic Ivyland Councilwoman Christina Finello in the race for the first congressional district.
The poll shows Fitzpatrick leading 53 percent to 39 percent over Finello. This same poll also shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump by nine points in the same district.
Public Opinion Strategies conducted the poll for the Fitzpatrick campaign. 400 voters responded between July 11-14 with a +/- 4.9 percent margin of error.
It also shows 59 percent of surveyed voters view Fitzpatrick favorably.
Results from this most recent survey, which show Fitzpatrick with a sizable lead, contradict the results of two polls from last month. June’s polls were commissioned by the Finello campaign and showed the candidates nearly neck and neck.
As noted by PoliticsPA Managing Editor John Cole, “all internal poll results should be taken with a grain of salt.”
“For those interested in where this campaign actually stands at the moment, here you go,” said Fitzpatrick campaign spokesperson Kate Constantini. “Christina Finello’s fake push-polls, which were solely designed to lie to donors and help her fundraising, have been exposed, and it’s not going to get much better for her. Her entire campaign is focused on replacing the most independent Congressman in U.S. history with her far-left partisan agenda.”
But the Finello campaign struck back. Campaign manager Ali Anderson claimed the most recent poll is the fake one.
“Brian Fitzpatrick can push any fake poll he wants to try to make himself look good, but he’s got a long record in Washington of siding with Donald Trump – and that’s what voters care about. Independent, third-party polls put this race in a dead heat because Fitzpatrick voted with Trump to give tax breaks to billionaires, stood by Trump as he bungled the worst health crisis in a century, and tore this country apart.”
On a tangential issue, the campaigns are also going back and forth on whether Finello accepted corporate PAC money.
“First she lied to our community by breaking her pledge to refuse corporate PAC money, now she’s lied to our community about her polling in order to help her fundraising,” Constantini said of Finello. “She has lost all credibility.”
Constantini did not specify which donation Finello received from a corporate PAC.
“Christina is committed to being a voice for the everyday working people of this district in Congress, that’s why she is refusing all corporate PAC contributions,” said Anderson. Meanwhile, Brian Fitzpatrick has accepted nearly a million dollars from corporate PACs, and lying about his opponent won’t change that. After two polls in June showing this race is tied, it’s clear the momentum is on our side and the voters of PA-01 are looking for a representative they can trust to be a voice for their families, not corporations.”
