The Newtown Borough Police wants to remind residents they can drop off their unused medication anonymously at their local station. Unwanted and over-prescribed meds can be abused by anyone and are often the target of thieves.

Bucks DA Matt Weintraub says these permanent disposal units are responsible for making communities safer.

“We collect a lot of old, expired, unused medication,” Weintraub said. “The good news is, every bit of medication we collect can never hurt or kill anyone every again.””

Police are also emphasizing the drop-off boxes are designed to reduce the quantity of prescription and over the counter meds in homes, but are not for the disposal of illegal drugs or needles.

Lotions or liquids, inhalers, aerosol cans, thermometers, and hydrogen peroxide are also not allowed in the disposal units.

Every police station in Bucks County has a permanent drop-off box for residents to use.
