Lower Bucks County will be celebrating Earth Day as a community this weekend at Core Creek Park in Middletown. Residents from Lower Makefield, Newtown, Falls, and Penndel are invited from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Apr. 27.

Middletown Parks and Rec Director Paul Kopera is working with Bucks County Parks and Recreation to organize the grand event.

“It’s a good time to take stock of a person’s self within the environment and how they can be a better steward to the environment,” Kopera said. “In our day to day actions, we can do more to counteract the negative effects of plastic water bottles, excessive lawn fertilization, and how we can be more organic and think about what we can do differently in the world.”

BrightView Landscaping will be giving away 400 saplings to people for their own yards. Other groups will give away various seeds and native plants for gardens.

“The idea is to get people to plant these in their yard,” Kopera said. “Some groups give vegetables to get them started. Some teach lasagna gardening, which is instead of tilling the soil, building the soil up so you don’t have to break it down. Then you can use compost and grass cuttings to plant your own vegetables.”

A food truck will be on site to sell snacks. Meanwhile, DARIA World Music and Nothing But A Nightmare are scheduled to play on the main stage for entertainment.
