This winter’s third Code Blue begins Tuesday evening as snow and single digit temperatures threaten the health of anyone sleeping outside overnight.
Woodside Church in Morrisville will be opening its doors to Lower Bucks through Thursday night but Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol takes over Friday. Karen Mineo with Advocates for the Homeless & Those in Need says the change is part of a monthly rotation between houses of worship.
“Literally there is no other place for the homeless to go in Lower Bucks,” Mineo said. “The only shelter in the county is in Levittown run by Family Services Association. It is full all the time and usually has a waitlist.”
People should also be aware of their neighbors during the upcoming week. Children, pets, and the elderly are especially vulnerable to freezing weather.
The Code Blue officially begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday night and ends Sunday morning. For more information on shelters, people can call Bucks County Housing Link at 1-800-810-4434.
