Tragedy struck in Levittown two weeks ago when a Bristol man accidentally shot his friend while clearing his weapon. Now, Cory Lei Ray, 24, must face charges of involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person.
Authorities say Ray was doing routine maintenance on his H&K P2000 9mm handgun on Jan. 16. At the same time, his life-long friend Jacob Pfeifer-Johnson, 24, showed up to his home in Indian Creek to enjoy some company.
However, the District Attoney’s Office says Ray “forgot to eject the weapon’s loaded magazine before racking the slide.” This loaded another round in the chamber, which Ray accidentally discharged when his thumb slipped.
Pfeifer-Johnson died thirteen hours later.
“Mr. Pfeifer-Johnson’s death was 100% avoidable,” said Bucks County District Attorney Matthew D. Weintraub. “The tragic message here is: keep your guns safe.”
District Judge Robert L. Wagner released Ray on unsecured bail and set a preliminary hearing for Feb. 13.
