Bensalem Council has approved a $330,000 Community Development Block Grant, as proposed by Mayor Joe DiGirolamo. The funds come through a Housing and Urban Development from Bucks County.

As discussed during last week’s council meeting, the money will be used on multiple projects. Primarily, funds will focus on the Bensalem Senior Center, which is in need of electrical and HVAC work, and the St. Mary Family Resource Center on Knights Road.

Solicitor Lauren Gallagher says Bensalem is in a fairly unique position among townships in Bucks County.

“Bensalem and Bristol Townships are the only municipalities in Bucks County that are granted their own HUD funds,” Gallagher said at the meeting. “All other municipalities in the county have to compete. We are fortunate enough to be able to allocate our funds as we see fit.”

Gallagher also made a point to say it’s common to reallocate this funding as time goes on and needs change.
